This one's going to be short. I recommend Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn to anyone who loves books for the words, and not for the characters. This fictional island off the Carolinas is known for a resident who came up with the pangram (a sentence containing all 26 letters of the alphabet) "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." A statue was erected in his honor, and then the letters start falling off one at a time, signaling to the government there that they should all cease using those letters both in speech and writing. It's an extremely verbose, humorous take on fascism's quick undertow and the ending is simple and brave and it was a fun ride.
